I didn't say I saw anything earth shattering. It is just refreshing to have someone who was there saying what happened and setting us up for the fall that he implies OTA is going to take unless broadcasters do what? Take charge and demand changes like modulation and codec? Yes I will buy that. It is insane to think that we are going to see broadcasters use MPEG2 for one SD channel and use the rest of their spectrum for MPEG4. Though I have been predicting that this is what will happen secretly I thought that at some point THIS CONVERSATION might start and lead to serious consideration of doing the right thing. That would be switching to a DVB-T level or better modulation and an MPEG4 AVC level codec or better. I have met a lot of very interesting people since getting involved with broadcast spectrum. A lot of really smart people. A lot of smart engineers most of which had their lips zipped on the modulation issue for the record anyway. A lot of broadcasters who knew better as to 8-VSB but who said Bob what can we do. But I have only met one person who I consider really ignorant as to what the issues of the DTV transition were and that is Gary Shapiro of the CEA. All you have to do is look at who he gives medals to to understand his agenda. Sort of like the Bush Freedom medal awards. The more you screw up the bigger your medal.
