Comcast Promotes Lobbyist With Deep Dem Ties

December 7, 2007

The nation's largest cable operator has promoted one of its top lobbyists: Melissa Maxfield will take the role of vice president of federal government affairs, effective Jan. 1 and will oversee the company's Congressional lobbying efforts.

Maxfield has longtime ties with Congressional Democrats. She was director of DASHPAC (Dedicated Americans for the Senate and the House PAC), the fundraising operation affiliated with former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) She joined Comcast in 2003 as senior director of federal government affairs.

"The leadership Melissa has exhibited for Comcast's Capitol Hill efforts has been tremendous and a key element in the success of our government affairs operation," said Kerry Knott, Comcast vice president of government affairs.

"Melissa has done a remarkable job of articulating Comcast's public policy positions and organizing our Congressional lobbying team," said executive vice president David L. Cohen.

Maxfield could have a full plate of contentious issues-ownership regulations, carriage obligations, franchising, programming choices, broadband rules and the eternal Congressional complaint, cable pricing, to name a few.

Prior to her various positions at DASHPAC, Maxfield worked with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee as political liaison and held several senior fundraising positions. She is a graduate of Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va.
