Weather data is in the public interest... When I fly I want the airlines
to have the best data available period.

I don't think any one entity that deals with weather could afford the
weather satellite network required to gather the data to make the
forecasts and issue alerts.

Good weather data helps in predicting disasters and we all pay for the
clean up of those through FEMA..

(I survived the 1974 April 3-4 tornadoes when I was 9)

Weather information is priceless as it can and does save lives...

I hope you never need that "free" weather information... I would hate to
have to set through a "This tornado alert brought to you by Charmin,,
when the big one hits your going to need us,," EAS alert.

I guess in your eyes they have to shutdown NOAA weather radio as well..

Imagine the gall of breaking into a 60 minute music sweep to warn
people... that would get a person fired at most stations.

We are pulling that free weather data and other specialized weather site
(Such as University of Kentucky's Ag weather) for transmission to
Emergency personnel, weather spotters, and other users via our
datacasting system. We wrote our own display Lapp for dispatch centers
and the like)
