Always fun to see what going on in other transitions.

According to Istat figures released yesterday for Italy, available at

TV households 93.9 percent
Analog TV sets 87.8 percent
"Digital" TV sets 5.2 percent

OTA households 71.1 percent (of TV households)
DBS households 25 percent
DTT STB households 15.2 percent
Cable households 3.9 percent

DBS and DTT STB ownership has been on the rise. Cable use was not said
to be on the rise, but as long as DBS use is going up, one has to
conclude that OTA use in Italy too, as in the UK, is in a slow decline?

It's likely that the DTT transition will cause a new equilibrium point
to be created for OTA use. Countries with low OTA use may see an
increase, and countries with high OTA use will see less decline.

Other stats given were for Internet access, 35.6 percent, slow rise,
broadband access at 14.4 percent and rising rapidly.
