Oops, slight correction.
Back before the exodus began, subscriptions went as high as around 90% of
households. The number of US households in 2018 was 127.6M. So, normalizing on
that 2018 figure, if the peak had occurred in 2018, it would have been 114.8
MVPD-subscribing households.
So far, so good. 127.6M * 0.9 = 114.8M
In this one survey sample, the suggestion is that overall, in the US, 67.8M
households have cut that cord, leaving 59.8M households with legacy MVPD
service.
Part of that is good too. 114.8M * 0.59 = 67.8M
But that 67.8M is to be subtracted from 114.8M, not 127.6M, which leaves 47M
households still with legacy MVPD service. That's only 37% of all US
households, still with legacy MVPD service? Sounds a bit extreme, but that's
what the article suggests has happened. Statistically, anyway.
That's and accelerating phenomenon!
