Bert has some good points. But the main takeaway from this conference is that
they did not spend all their time living in the “broadcast past.” Speaker after
speaker put on their “Captain Obvious Hat” and noted that broadcasting is now
just one of many ways to deliver content to consumers in one of many
consumption venues.
Of note was the recognition that spectrum is still scarce and that 5G can be
used for broadcasting. What this boils down to is load balancing of multiple
networks - point to multipoint will be a factor in this equation.

Reading what Roland Beutler said, and the others, eventually people should
wonder why make a big deal out of the one-way broadcast path at all.
Some seem to think that 5G, or actually IP is what they really mean, might be
"in competition" with broadcasting, and by extension, broadcasters. How
strange. Beutler is more on point. TV content delivery has to move beyond the
limitations of the one-way broadcast pipe, and really already has. Beutler
thinks that TV viewers have to be able to get back to the broadcaster. Maybe
one could generalize what is required that way, but it's way more than just
that.
And who cares if 5G will take years to implement? TV over IP can be wired or
wireless, and it can use 4G or 5G for wireless, without asking for anything
new. Broadcast is just the old protocol, the only game in town for TV,
decades ago. No longer. That's all. TV "broadcasters" should perhaps change
their name, so they don't feel compelled to associate themselves only with
the one, original, content delivery protocol.
