Monty Solomon posted: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/06/04/report-tv-apps-are-soaring-in-popularity/ What wasn't made clear is whether this streaming is VOD streaming, or real time. But since the article compared the different types of streaming, showing that the greatest increase was in viewing OTT content on TVs (Roku, Chromecast, AppleTV), the implication is they are talking about VOD. This is very important. Why? Because it hints at whether or not direct live TV "anywhere anytime" is what people actually want, as opposed to convenient access to the shows they like, on any device. And the other point is, the article concludes that "it may be that the best way to cut the cord is to keep the cord." This would only be the natural conclusion for someone who is slaved to these limited Internet TV boxes, seemingly designed to further the best interests of the MVPDs. QED.
