The justices turned down several petitions seeking review
of a Federal Communications Commission action that has since
been reversed.
Which, as the Ars Technica article explains, puts the actions of this FCC on
shaky ground. Great news, I think and hope.
But I think that journalists should spend some time emphasizing the absurdity
of this FCC, an absurdity that can only be explained by corruption of certain
government officials. And this NYT article did briefly mention the absurdity:
"The rules allowed the federal government to regulate high-speed internet
delivery as a utility, like phone service."
And elaborate that slightly. Meaning that the service must not block or degrade
any web sites or other Internet users/sites, just as phone service must not
block or degrade legal users of the that telecom service.
Most people, unless they are one of the special interests or are accepting
bribes from same, would say "Duh!" Of course, that's what we want.
So, if the Supreme Court won't rehash the 2015 (belated) decision, what on
earth gives this rogue FCC the right to turn it all upside down? Rogue indeed.
Boot the scoundrels out of office!
