Those algorithms are provided by a french startup called Let it wave :

It has apparently obtained very favourable comments from Yves Faroudja himself,

Bandelets are a derivative of wavelets. Interestingly , one of the creators of 
the company, 
Stephane Mallat, is a man whose name will appear in any book retracing the 
history of 
wavelet theory, so he must know what he is talking about.

They also do image restoration for seismic, satellite or medical stuff, and 
image compression (down to 500 bytes for an Id photo with very acceptable 
quality, see the demo on their home page.

No way to try it on your PC, though, as they want to keep control on their 
product and will not spread it over the internet.
