Thanks Craig,
As you know Emmy has a high threshold level of impact. The technology under
consideration has to demonstrate a high level of impact to broadcast,
distribution or consumption of TV. What are other technologies besides Skype
that started as consumer video conference app have such an impact? Back to Kent
comment Skype insistence of identifying Skype as means during broadcasting
makes it very visible to consumers like me. Perhaps other technologies do not
have that rule and it’s hard to see them from outside.

Subject: [opendtv] Re: Skype for broadcasting
Kent's comment about Skype aside, I'm seeing a ton of IP video (via Internet)
on the cable news channels - i don't watch the broadcast network news, so I
don't know if they are doing this too. But there are many ways to send a live
video stream over the internet from "webcams."
I suspect that there are companies that specializes in the studio gear needed
to convert these video streams into signals that can be integrated with live
production gear. That may be worth a technical Emmy.
It would be interesting to know if the news organizations are using higher end
gear to send HD quality feeds over the Internet. I know they do this in the
local news business with bonded cellular.

Craig
