TOKYO, July 14 (Reuters) - Sharp Corp (TOKYO:6753) said on
Wednesday there are signs of an inventory buildup for LCD
televisions in the industry but that it has managed to avoid it.
Sharp President Katsuhiko Machida said inventories of LCD
monitors equipped with TV tuners were mounting. Major
manufacturers of such models include Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) and
Gateway (NYSE:GTW).

"Sharp has managed to avoid that with higher-end models, but
it is true that the industry worldwide is starting to see a
buildup," Machida told reporters in Tokyo.

Industry watchers say low-cost TVs from traditional PC
manufacturers could threaten Sharp's 40 percent share in the LCD
television market if consumers choose new sets based solely on
price differences.
