I've heard it said that in order to bypass the probable Broadcast Flag, HDMI-only requirements, and potential future recording issues, one should buy a DTT tuner now. That way, one can get an analog output in order to record and playback media acquired from DTT. On a technical level, will the currently available DTT receivers such as the Accurian or a PCI tuner card work if the broadcast flag is enacted? On an ethical level, I still feel I have the right to record and view material for my own private use (whether fair use laws exist or not). Possible future congressional acts might prevent this. What do you folks think about this? I recently went to a conference on allowing archived television broadcasts to be available and openly used for research within educational institutions. I feel this is appropriate under fair use. Lawyers and content owners disagree. Opinions?
