Ooops. Forgot you said 4:3 aspect ratio info:

If the decoder knows that the 540 X 480 is not square pixel, as is the case in 
many of the HDMI options, then what is it? Is this a 16:9 display? If yes, the 
decoder *pillarboxes* the image, to fill the 16:9 frame.
