According to figures compiled by Kaplan, Swicker=20 & Simha on behalf of the DEG, approximately 340=20 million DVDs shipped in the third quarter of=20 2004, a 59 percent increase over the same period=20 last year. Setting another DVD record, nearly one=20 billion discs shipped so far this year, bringing=20 the total number of DVDs shipped since launch to=20 more than 3.3 billion. The holiday selling season is anticipated to=20 provide another record-breaking fourth quarter=20 for the popular home entertainment format,=20 supported by new releases of more than $4 billion=20 of box office hits. In addition to these=20 blockbuster films, a variety of genres such as TV=20 series, classics, special interest and music=20 titles continue to fuel DVD sales with nearly=20 38,000 titles currently available.
