They have done this already for several years for their Video OnDemand service.


It doesn't make as much sense to do it for the basic and enhanced tiers, because of the vast number of unicast streams necessary would make it impractical.

Bandwidth wise, there isn't a whole lot of difference between QAM cable and 100 multicast streams, other than breaking televisions with ClearQAM tuners installed.

So now the question is, why not the cable company use their broadband pipe to deliver the TV content to the subscriber this same way, even while the subscriber is at home?

You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways:

- Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org
- By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word 
unsubscribe in the subject line.
