Thanks for your reasoned response.
I think 28-30% is still a long way from "majority status." But it's clear where
this is headed. If Hulu is able to move a significant number of homes from
legacy MVPD service to their new VMVPD service, we could reach 51% streaming in
a year or two.
One minor caveat. The 28% streaming number includes some unidentified
percentage of live linear program streams. These would include live sports from
ESPN, CBS All Access, and premieres of popular TV shows like Game of Thrones.
Not to mention any live stream offered by a VMVPD service like Sling TV.
I mention this, as Bert tends to consider ANYTHING that is streamed to be VOD.
Moving forward there will still be a mixture of live linear and time shifted
viewing, regardless of the pipe being used to watch the content.

Craig

U
28% of TV Viewing Done Via Streaming
Jul 08 2015
Streaming is becoming a very big deal. According to a new study, 28% of all
TV viewing is now done via digital streaming.
Research company GfK MRI says that accessing subscription or free online
platforms using a personal computer or mobile device accounts for 16% of time
spent with TV content. Streaming via a connected TV set accounts for another
9% and using other devices, including game consoles, covers around 3%.
The study found that 41% of TV viewers are what GfK MRI calls "Digital
Enthusiasts" who have a traditional pay-TV subscription plus three streaming
TV services.
The study is part of GfK MRI's "The Future of TV" series, which found the
viewers still like old-fashioned TV viewing. The most popular way to watch TV
remains live when first broadcast, and watching live accounts for 39% of time
spent with TV content.
------------------------------
So the actual percentage of streaming is probably in the range of 30%
now.
Finally you're saying something that is supportable, and consistent with
other sources. Indeed, we have to expect that the 25% figure estimated before
this Jun 2015 timeframe would have grown by then, and certainly by now.
Remember, this is TV material, rather than the entire daily consumption of
"video."
The 39% live makes sense when you add DVR time shifting,
And this too supports all of the other figures we have seen. Indeed, what use
to be 47% consumed "live" is bound to decline over time.
So, none of this is close to being "far from the truth," as you have been
insisting. Just don't forget this, okay? I will add this to my other sources.
