Because it's NOT FREE.

To be absolutely correct, it is Advertiser Supported AND the majority of viewers who watch broadcast TV programming via an MVPD service are ALSO paying subscriber fees.

There's no free lunch...

or Free TV.


P.S. and the number of people buying antennas is still small relative to the total number of TV homes. The article said about 5%. BUT, when combined with streaming video services, the additional OTA content may be enough to satisfy many consumers; especially those who are tired of paying >$70/mo. for their TV fix.
