The Wash Post article makes the point that it is mostly car radios *offered as 
factory installed equipment* that create the audience for satellite radio. 
Which makes sense to me.

The next question is, does this mean that all these merged-standard satellite 
radio receivers will also include HD Radio tuning? That wasn't mentioned in 
either article.

The other questions are, how does this affect the likelihood that future 
requests to merge Echostar and DirecTV will be granted? Ditto for increasing 
the national cap on OTA TV station networks. The arguments in favor of all of 
these are essentially the same.
