I am always doubtful regarding this recurring view of the upcoming obsolescence of optical media due to broadband. Where are you supposed to keep all the valuable contents you have paid for? On hard disks ? Not a technology you can trust, in my opinion.
For collectors, recordable DVDs are always an option if they do not want to invest in a properly designed hard disk based server. And flash memory is closing the gap with optical.
Of course, for temporary rental of movies, i have no problem with the broadband option. But for movies you really want to own...Or any kind of family archives, for that matter.
The real issue here is how many people want to collect most video content and watch it in the future. Unlike music, video is not typically consumed over and over again.
And then there is the very real possibility that with cloud based storage you may be able to pay for the rights once and consume at any time in the future without ANY local storage needed.
