Replying a few days late but for some reason I got no posts on this list
for a couple days and then last night got a couple dozen.

And yes, according to the guys on the AVS Jax local HD forum the
frequencies did indeed change around April 15. However a channel
re-scan still won't help with the problem since they changed a couple of
the network HD channels to frequencies that are filtered out for
lifeline tier limited basic users. That is, I would have to pay extra
to receive them.

Tonight I called Comcast and got the official but probably uninformed
word from the customer support line, after a total of almost 40 minutes
on hold. I even asked the guy to run off and find someone who
understood but I'm still not sure. However the official word is that
network HD channels are not available to me as a limited basic
subscriber anymore and I would have to pay more to get them. He also
said the network channels are now encrypted but I'm still not quite sure
he really knew. The whole experience was somewhat like talking to ma
bell a few decades ago before they were broken up the first time.

I then started to cancel my limited basic subscription but was told that
the lowest priced 6 MB broadband subscription without it would be sixty
some dollars per month. Three months ago here in Jax it was only 40
something. Since that's more than my current teaser rate including the
limited basic I guess I'll just ignore the cable TV but not change my
plan for another 3 months.

Anyway, whether it is due to filters or encryption you do now have to
pay extra for HD network channels on Comcast and cannot get them with
limited basic.

I suppose I'll eventually put up my antenna again. At least where I
live all the towers are mostly in the same direction from me here.
