Speak of the devil. This is the level of understanding we have, even in the

advanced emergency alerts and more."
Do the simple arithmetic, to see how such a notion makes absolutely no sense.
Just how many "on demand" programs can that 6 MHz downstream channel carry,
EVEN IF this were a cellular system? Maybe five at most, SD quality, and no
room left for the main program? Should say, "using a two-way broadband
connection for viewers with Internet access." At which point, some might
begin to wonder why the broadcast link is needed at all.
Take a deep breath Bert. We both agree that the quality of journalism in
today’s world has declined to the point where we might believe Pravda before
our own news agencies.
Clearly you are correct that the broadcast channel cannot deliver “on demand”
programs. But it is equally clear that a station CAN use a “broadband return
path,” to deliver content on demand. They do this today via their websites,
mostly for news, as this is the only content they own and can stream without
obtaining the streaming rights.
By the way, our local ABC affiliate now streams its newscast live, and on
demand after the live broadcasts.
And there's more:
"MVPDs must continue to carry ATSC signals but don't have to carry the new
3.0 signals."
Really? So, MVPDs have been carrying ATSC 1.0 all these years. Who knew?
What we don’t know is if anyone other than Sinclair is interested in deploying
ATSC 3.0.
You might think that a “journalist” might try to talk to a few broadcasters to
find out, rather than turning this into another “political special interest”
story..
