>Given all that is at stake for LG, it wouldn't surprise me that their, as >you put it, supertuner, was just that, a supertuner with a frequency agile >band pass filter, and it is this super front end, not the chip itself, that >makes it a supertuner. That is why the "other" company that used the LG 5th >gen chip that Bob Miller tried out failed so miserably. > > > For what it's worth, the LG prototype that worked fine was housed in a tiny STB, and the LG people said they had just swapped chips with the 4th-generation. Also, for what it's worth, the one that failed had such poor performance that I suspect something was amiss. Finally, for what it's worth, although I saw plug-&-play COFDM indoor reception in Baltimore in the Sinclair tests (it worked even UNplug-&-play; simply touching the antenna lead brought in stable pictures), it might be worth noting that no one has yet demonstrated COFDM reception in my apartment. Still, it certainly is interesting that no one has yet come out with a working LG-5th-generation STB.
