Let's see...$1200 for an HDTV monitor -- same as last year's model, but with the NTSC tuner removed -- or $1600 for the same thing, but with an ATSC receiver/decoder or $1700 for the ATSC+CableCard version. Joe Sales Manager at the local A/V retailer makes his money by moving product -- the more units/month, the more $ in his pocket. He knows that the cheaper HDTV product will sell more, especially since 85% (statistical average) of his customers have either cable or satellite, and don't even know what an "ATSC tuner" is or why they would ever use one. If the big CE guys don't make HD monitors (easy for them, all they have to do is remove the NTSC tuner), then China Inc. will do it for them -- and eat a significant portion of thier lunch. -- Frank ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
