Hardly. If there had been plenty of competition, you would NEVER have seen such
amazing similarity among the bundles.
Internet services are not subject to ANY of these regulatory burdens.
Because once you have a neutral distribution pipe, a two-way pipe with plenty
of edge storage, tons of competing services can be delivered through this pipe.
If the pipe were instead under the complete control of the ISP, and the pipe
was very much capacity-constrained, as 24/7 broadcast nets of legacy MVPDs are,
then the ISP would choose the players for you. This is your favorite
non-neutral playing field, Craig. In such an environment, the FCC would have to
step in with rules about fair access for competing services, on that limited
pipe.
Round and round we go...again. IF you must pay for a service it
is by definition a walled garden.
No, Craig. It is merely one of any number of services you have access to, on
the neutral pipe. A walled garden only gives you access to whatever services
THEY want. A neutral pipe can be used by any comers, even those who compete
against the ISP's own content.
A service can be ad-supported, *or* supported by direct payment, WITHOUT
implying that any number of other competing services are being shut out.
Deleting the repetitive rest of it.
