(TOKYO:6501) and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (TOKYO:6752) have agreed to jointly produce large liquid crystal display panels for flat screen TVs, a newspaper said on Friday. Business daily Nihon Keizai reported that Matsushita, the maker of Panasonic brand products, will probably shoulder some of the 100 billion yen ($894.3 million) investment for a new LCD plant Hitachi is planning to build in Japan as early as 2006. Electronics maker Toshiba Corp (TOKYO:6502) may also join the LCD project, the paper said. Officials at all three companies said nothing has been decided on such a project and declined to comment further.
