As Dan wrote, it's the HDCP kicking in. Computers by (default) design cannot be HDCP compliant, same for DTCP under firewire (1394). I'm sure if you connected the HDMI port to the output of a STB, you can (with the right software) capture unprotected video (IE OTA broadcasters) to the laptop.Okay, that makes sense. So instead, I'm not getting a BluRay drive (not an option in the Dell 580s anyway), and I'm going to use RGB and the separate audio mini-phone plug interface to the TV. Which saves me the cost of the optional ATI video card with the HDMI port. Not bad. So far, I'm not using any HDMI to my TV set.
