Your recorder could be reacting >to CGMS-A bits on its input or receiver generated Macrovision (sync >pulse or color stripe distortion). Welcome to the broacast flagged >future. Indeed. Typical variants for Analog Protection System (i.e. classic Macrovision) in the cable world are: 0 - Analog_Protection_Off 1 - AGC_Process_On_Split_Burst_Off 2 - AGC_Process_On_2_Line_Split_Burst_On 3 - AGC_Process_On_4_Line_Split_Burst_On When the set top sees a non-zero value (typically in private sections in the PMT) it is supposed to do the wrong thing to the analog signal. For CGMS-A, the set top is supposed to assert one of the following in line 21 (the XDS bits IIRC) 0 - Copying_Is_Permitted_Without_Restriction 1 - No_Further_Copying_Permitted 2 - One_Generation_Of_Copies_May_Be_Made 3 - No_Copying_Is_Permitted And your PVR or DVD recorder is supposed to obey all this nonsense, assuming it didn't get accidentally turned off when you made it region free... gary ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
