Try again. You are completely missing the point.

The issue is not capacity Bert; it is using the 600 MHz spectrum for a
layer of services that it is appropriate for.

The 600 MHz spectrum grab was justified as a way to meet the needs of broadband 
wireless, Craig. You need to understand that numbers and reality are not 
separate. Numbers are used to understand reality, as opposed to waving one's 
arms about reality.

You ask why 80 MHz channels. Because 4G (not 5g yet, just 4G) claims up to 1 
Gb/s of capacity. That's why. 4G is supposed to strive for 2.32 b/s/Hz by 2020. 
That's still only 185.6 Mb/s of aggregate capacity, in an 80 MHz channel. If 
you're lucky, a highly uncorrelated set of 4 X 4 MIMO propagation paths will 
give you 742.4 Mb/s capacity, in that one 80 MHz channel. And the spectrum 
cleared by the FCC is 84 MHz.

So, not a huge payoff. One channel only, not optimal for small cells, several 
would be needed to create cellular service, so not enough to put a dent in this 
shortage. And in rural environments, this UHF spectrum is most likely available 
by aggregating TV white spaces, without having to be grabbed from urban areas, 
where it's far less useful.

The service exists;

Trial installations, including in the Wash DC market, in 2017. To compete 
against cabled broadband service. What you're talking about is not competitive 
with fixed broadband service, Craig. Never has been. I sent the link today.
