You don't notice how you've derailed this into another Apple propagandafest?

Thunderbolt vs USB 3.0? That was an Apple of another time too? It's the same old story, time and time again.

And that's not the point anyway. Apple was just one (perfect) example of why "global TV standards" never seem to be possible. If it isn't countries that throw wrenches in the works, it is corporations, such as MVPDs, device manufacturers like Apple, or vertically polarized companies, like Apple, that want to play the manufacturer AND service provider roles.

I'd say, TV broadcast cannot go too wrong if they avoid total dependence on IP overhead, when it's not essential.
