Interesting thing to note about our new from-the-ground-up facility (which is still being installed at present) is that the we specified in the design criteria the ability to produce in either 1080i and 720p but specified we wanted everything set up for 720p during commissioning. Due to budget constraints, we had to adopt 1080i because certain pieces could only do that format. The cameras and production switcher could do either but the Avid playout servers (the low cost ones) could only do NTSC or 1080i. That has changed so we can now commission all equipment in 720p. But perhaps the most interesting part is that it took several communications to the system engineers to get them to go with 720p as they assumed 1080i. Also to note is that equipment producing 1080@60p is now mostly available if one is careful to select specific equipment but is still a significant cost premium. Therefore, we stuck with 720p.
