They are doing some research with the Stirling engine here at UNLV: http://www.cer.unlv.edu/research.php?sn=solardish The solar reflector provides the calories. Nevada Power also has some of these in use to generate power. There are some problems: 1) they are not realizing the efficiencies that are theoretically possible, and 2) they are not very reliable, requiring repairs quite often.
