Why should there be a problem with this? The tests of the Linx receiver in Chicago, DC, and Ottawa, and the tests of the prototype LG, were all done with simple monopole and dipole antennas, on sidewalks, parking lots, and indoors. I don't know why we're still fretting about portable reception, especially the outdoor variety. Portable reception has been demoed time and time again. The problem is getting the better receivers on store shelves. By the way, Doug's idea of an omni receiving antenna with gain should work very well with receivers that have good enough equalizers to make use of echo energy. The best antennas in that case are the least directional, as the LG prototype tests showed.
