http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/FCC-10-16A1.pdf The FCC is making June 12, 2010, the date to clear the 700 Mhz band of wireless mikes. One year after the end of the DTV transition. The interesting part of this are the comments by the wireless microphone companies and others. These companies are concerned that the reduction of TV spectrum to Ch 2-51, coupled with the use of TV "white spaces" by unlicensed devices, are creating a situation where the spectrum allowed for microphone use is inadequate. Some have suggested addition of the 900 MHz to 2.4 GHz band for mikes. But since these bands are used for toys and microwave overns, others say it's not spectrum fit for professional use. There's also debate about whether ore not wireless mikes should have co-equal status with white space devices (TV Band Devices). One commenter says that interference from mikes to white space devices would have minimal impact, but the other way around makes the mikes unusable. Other commenters mentioned that there are very many unlicensed wireless mikes out there too, maybe 1 million. US wireless microphone companies CAN still produce mikes that operate in the 700 MHz band, but only for export.
