I think it fair to say that the definition of "broadcasting" has

that most of the economically viable TV broadcasters decided to

Why? Two words: retransmission consent.
Perhaps, but that's a short term solution. As people cut the cord, retrans
consent will at best grab more and more money from the dwindling number of
loyal Craigs of the country. The definition of broadcasting is in limbo because
actual "broadcasting" is no longer the only method available, to distribute TV
content.
VOD is NOT going to replace live linear networks that offer live
events and first run access to new episodes of popular shows.
This is Craig self-soothing again. BS, Craig. VOD has ALREADY supplanted a lot
of "live" sports viewing, and the majority of all other viewing, even if the
delay is minor. One example, people like to FF through ads. Have you really
never heard people say that they "are recording the game"? Happens all the
time. People might want to finish dinner first, or might have to stop at the
store before going home. Sooner rather than later, people learn that they don't
need to "record" manually, at home. My point is, broadcasters have play in this
new reality, as opposed to mouthing the quaint old truisms.
You must be one of very few luddites who feels he has to rush home to catch the
TV show, Craig
Apparently he has no clue that millions of viewers actually
DO make appointments
Trying to justify your antediluvian viewing method? Only 39%, Craig, and that
was two years ago. By now, who knows? Most likely no more than 1/3, could be
even less.
