As this is in french, i will attempt a translation of my own :
"TPS has broadcast yesterday (9/14/05) a short HDTV demo movie in MPEG4
format on DTT from the Eiffel tower transmitter. The bitrate was 11
Mbps, and showed no visible quality difference when compared to a
simultaneous MPEG2 HDTV satellite broadcast using 18 Mbps. TPS has been
authorized to broadcast in MPEG4 SDTV as soon as possible three of its
channel on the same 24 Mbps multiplex as TF1 and NRJ12, already present
on TNT (the french acronym for DDT).
For this experiment, the TVHD channel was inserted in the available
space in the multiplex (TF1 and NRJ12 only require 4.5 Mbps each). No
side effect has been observed.
Hardware from Thomson and a ST Microelectronics decoding chip were used.
TPS is expected to start HDTV broadcasts from satellite for three of its
channels in December. No authorization to permanently broadcast HDTV on
TNT has been delivered to them as of now."

About the TNT itself, i was surprised to see that the bitrate for 16 QAM
multiplexes is only 12.06 Mbps. It means that a really robust mode of
transmission has been chosen. The COFDM table gives a C/N of 8.8 to 11.2
for those parameters. Too bad i haven't an indoor antenna lying around,
or i would have tried to receive those from my distance of roughly 50
kms away.

The longest distance i've heard about on the forums for stable reception
for now is 100 kms. Beyond that , of course , there has been some
attempts at DX-TNT, and also at mobile reception in cars, with receivers
not specifically designed for that. Some say they have managed to
receive at up to 70 km/h , and (not necessarily at that speed) in
unexpected places, under bridges, or obstacles.

There is a portable receiver for sale, the Oceanic OCEAN DVB-T700. One
early adopter seems to be pleased with the device, but the
specifications (480 x 234) are not up to european SDTV resolution. Price
is between 290 and 300 euros. It can also be used as a DTT adaptor for a
standard TV set. I could not find an english link for it, so here's a
(commercial) french one :
