Some years back, I said that I wouldn't start to be happy with my PSIP generator www.EtherguideSystems.com <http://www.etherguidesystems.com/> until one unit had operated for 30 continuous days without any observable errors. Last night, about midnight Alaska time, I reached that milestone with two units. The one that is currently providing static psip (the customer is happy with that; I want him to finish his work on the traffic system interface) at KYES-DT Anchorage Alaska has been operating for 30 days, 17 hours and 5 or more minutes. Every time the GM tunes into his station, he has PSIP channels and EPG data. A day or so before that, the second unit, the one operating on my workbench, was stopped after operating (with all output stored to disk) for exactly 30 days. I then ran the output through a variety of validation tools - including, but not limited to TS Reader - and no continuity errors or CRC-32 errors (no errors of any kind) were noticed. For those among this list that are looking to 1) meet the new FCC PSIP rules, which go into effect on May 29, 2008 and 2) are interested in making PSIP work in the redundant broadcast environment that we have all come to expect and know, I now have a system that will operate as well (if not better) than the three other dynamic PSIP generators in the marketplace, and my system is the only one designed for the redundant environment. I guess it's time to update my web site; I've FINALLY entered commercial mode.
