Because your statement was so absurd it deserved it. The
fact that you later contradicted yourself is no excuse.
I showed you that the Surface is no longer a tablet. It is a PC. The Surface RT
is long gone. The new Surface, and the old Surface Pro, do not depend entirely
on someone else's mindless apps to function at all. It runs all of the standard
OS and applications, browsers, Flash, etc., as any PC. That's why it, and
two-in-ones, are doing well, and your lesser tablets are in very steep decline.
All true but irrelevant, my statement was about the use of
tablets, not detachable PCs. And as I illustrated, they are not
in steep decline.
You illustrated NOTHING OF THE SORT. On the contrary, you posted a graph which
showed the steep and ongoing decline, and I posted an article that explained it
to you as well. So, you don't "illustrate," Craig. You "proclaim." And I don't
buy unfounded proclamations.
Yes, for the past year there has been negative growth,
Look at the graph again. Growth of lesser tablets started petering out in 2012,
became flat by 2014, and then negative in 2015. And the article I posted
explained that this wasn't just sales, but usage patterns too. In short, PCs
have important roles that smartphones and the lesser tablets cannot fill.
Smartphones and phablets also have roles that the lesser tablets cannot fill.
But these lesser tablets do not have roles that either PCs, or smartphones,
can't do at least as well, or far better.
The current decline says more about the global economy than any
particular device. It is having an impact on all markets...
The only point I was making is that no one could possibly expect the lesser
tablets to replace PCs, if they gave it an ounce of thought. The lesser tablets
may have replaced PCs for causal reading, or other casual consumption tasks,
but phablets took that role from them in a hurry. So the term "post PC era" was
ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as it would be now to say "post smartphone era."
What makes the term ridiculous is that there is nothing out there today to
replace either the PC or the smartphone.
