[opendtv] Does industry implement first order hold in projectors ?

Hi,
Considering cinematography as a sampling transmission chain, the
projector acts as the Zero order hold element that reconstructs the
original motion from the frame samples, with some distorsions (so no
need for phi effect or persistence of vision as far as motion is
concerned).

In a standard sampled system, a low pass filter would be needed behind
it to remove residual high frequencies from sampling and perhaps some
digital domain precompensation of the frequency response of the zero
order hold.

However these elements are generally not available in practice. Would it
be possible to reduce the distorsions produced by the zero order hold by
replacing it with a first older hold ?

For example a DLP projector could, intead of holding one frame steady
for one full sample interval, do a gradual fade to the next frame, all
along the sampling interval.

Does anyone know of such experiments having been carried out ? Or even
brought to commercial use ?
