I fundamentally agree with your position but, unfortunately, the time has
long passed when our current course could change. The best we can hope for
is that manufacturers can be somehow motivated to improve 8VSB receiver
performance using readily available hardware. Such an upgrade would enable
performance in the Zenith "cold fusion" category. We must be pragmatic, this
is about as good as it will get any time soon and that will likely be good
enough for a reasonable start.

However, I?m not optimistic. Were the CE manufacturers interested in a
successful OTA DTV transition, these features would be in place in our
current equipment. Hopefully the FCC can make that happen but I wont hold my
breath. Introduction of government subsidized converter boxes is our next
major milestone, perhaps that will rekindle this debate, assuming that the
boxes are problematic.
