What are you alluding to, in particular? I participated in the urban portion of the 1999 tests and don't believe that my descriptions were embellished in any way. Written reports seldom ever provide, in full detail, what the eyes
on the ground actually witness.

One major factor in the MSTV tests that was glossed over was the "ease of reception" or the number of degrees that a directional antenna could be turned and still receive the signal. Because of front end overload, ATSC outscored DVB-T with the 30' mast, but DVB-T outscored ATSC with the 6' mast and more importantly in many cases had a 360 degree angle of reception where the ATSC had a very narrow angle of reception.

8-VSB receivers have gotten better, there is no disputing that. Are they better than 1999-2000 COFDM receivers? Perhaps, in certain very narrowly defined situations, but not over all. Are 5th Generation 8-VSB receivers as good as today's COFDM receivers? Let's not even find out.

John
