If the US had a decent modulation like OZ does we would have more than
twice the penetration OZ has and three times the number of OTA model
receivers for sale with even more variety. Retail stores would be
awash in knowledge of and quantities of OTA receivers.

Cable and satellite would be demanding action from Congress to force
reverse must "allow to be" carried laws so that broadcasters could not
withhold their content from cable or charge very "excessive" retrans
fees.

Mobile reception would be ubiquitous, the digital transition would be
over as broadcasters would long since have petitioned the FCC to be
allowed to go digital. There would have been no mandate forcing
unwanted OTA receivers into TV sets since they would be wanted.

And this in spite of the fact that they get roughly the same number of

Demand for free DTV rising in Australia

Retailers and television installers took delivery of 247,000 digital TV
receivers in the first quarter of 2007, taking the total sold to nearly
2.55m, according to Digital Broadcasting Australia (DBA), the
not-for-profit industry group promoting free-to-view digital
broadcasting.

DBA said figures included the sales of set top boxes, digital TV
recorders and integrated digital television sets. The average monthly
sales volume of digital television receivers to retailers and installers
during Q1 was 82,600 per month. "This average compares to a monthly
average of 71,420 units for the corresponding quarter during 2006," said
DBA.

"Strong retail demand for LCD and plasma televisions equipped with
integrated digital tuners continued driven by consumer uptake of newer
flat panel televisions with reported sales of integrated digital
televisions representing 61% of all digital television receivers sold to
Australian retailers and installers.

"This continued to drive the growth of high-definition digital
television with high definition digital television receivers accounting
for the majority of all sales to Australian retailers and installers for
the second quarter in a row. As a result, HD receivers are now estimated
to account for 39% of all digital television receivers present in
Australian homes."

Based on the cumulative sales figures DBA estimates take-up of
free-to-view digital television has reached an estimated 2.2m homes, 28%
of Australia's total of 7.8m.
