I don't disagree with most of what you have said. The paranoid
entertainment industry is to blame on this. They knew the problem
existed prior to the advent of Digital Television. Why did they not get
the appropriate standard approved then? But the problem is not HDMI it
is HDCP. HDMI is a simple problem for the consumer. In fact when I
bought my HR10-250 DVR last year the appropriate cable were provided.
The real problem is the Monitor and the fact it was not HDCP compliant.
So we should be discussing HDCP not HDMI.

OK. So let me get this straight. IF (that in my mind is a BIG IF) HD-DVD

takes off, are the 10M digital set owners expected to spend $400-500 to=20
be able to display the HDTV (on top of the cost of the HD-DVD player)?=20
And...if one CAN get around this HDMI interface, why bother with=20
providing it as the sole output? Why not provide DVI in the first place?
Are consumers NOT important in the world of CE products? What is most=20
important? Hollywood?

The fact that it is "fixable" is precisely the point! Someone will break

the system, no doubt, so why force a pile of crap on the majority to=20
plug a hole that will ALWAYS exist and be drilled by those that will=20
wreak havoc anyway?

Patrick, not personally aimed at you, just trying to make a point. I=20
believe it is too heavy of a burden to expect from consumers, and will=20
keep the elephant from flying anyway...

I believe there are more instances
of the abridgment of the freedom of
the people by gradual and silent
encroachments of those in power than
by violent and sudden usurpations.
