Funny thing how "deregulating" DSL wiped out thousands of small

I was awake and have a pretty good idea of what happened and why.
You were obviously utterly confused, Craig, because it was indeed obvious that
deregulation of the telcos' lines, for the purpose of dialup Internet, caused
the demise of thousands of independent ISPs. Nothing "funny" about it. So, your
libertarian rhetoric goes out the window.
As always, these things have to be a balancing act. You sweeten the pot enough
for the telcos to improve their infrastructure, while at the same time you
don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
What the FCC could have done is largely irrelevant, except for the
decision to be consistent with Title II regulation of the telcos,
which enabled companies to create dial up ISP services over the
common carrier telco infrastructure.
More proof that you missed what was going on? As long as the independent ISPs
were to be allowed to use telco lines, the telcos did nothing to expand ADSL.
It was taking years and years, and the cablecos essentially expanded their MVPD
local monopolies into broadband local monopolies.
And in truth, things are not a whole lot different now, except at least SOME
people do have that telco option for broadband.
So, ISP competition is quite sorely inadequate --> therefore neutrality
regulation becomes necessary.
