Dan
Thanks for posting this article!
Looks like a preemptive strike by Comcast. I'm sure Bert will be pleased!
Now that he can get everything he wants, wonder how soon he will sign up?
Unfortunately, it looks like Comcast can only offer this app to existing
customers in their service footprint. So Bert still has an excuse...
But the article says volumes about what the FCC chairman really wants...
The FCC hopes to create a robust marketplace for video services, allowing
customers to subscribe to a number of services and buy a gadget that can play
all of them -- including cable content. For example, you could search for a
show and choose to watch it on your cable DVR, on live TV, on Netflix or any
number of other services.
I wonder what part of this announcement Wheeler does not understand? The
Samsung Smart TVs and Roku devices do allow access to "a number of services."
They may not provide the ability to search across multiple services as the new
Apple TV does, however, as they say, "it's only software.
The fact that Apple TV is not supported by Comcast may also be newsworthy. We
know that Apple and Comcast were working together at one point. So either the
relationship fell apart, or Apple may still be planning to offer a MVPD bundle
with a national footprint that would compete with Comcast.
One more thing. Dan usually attends NAB. There was very little news out of
Vegas this year other than the ATSC 3.0. noise. Did you see anything newsworthy
Dan?
Regards
Craig
