This is what you get when you try to use regulation to control runaway
inflation in cable rates by giving broadcasters the ability to get their pound
of flesh too...
Too bad that retransmission consent is now causing significant pain for the
wired (regulated) cable/FTTH systems. It will just accelerate “cord switching.”
But the OTT bundles that people are switching to, for the most part, do not
include local stations or the networks that they carry.
One might take heart in the fact that broadcasters are now being foisted on
their own petards, after decades of feasting on retrans revenues. But the
reality is that they keep demanding more, causing those monthly broadcast fees
to keep increasing.
When will this madness end?
