I'll repeat: if the FCC truly believes that the cost of serving

The FCC just made its point. They eliminated the rate floor.
Since that would be too stupid for words, the only conclusion one can come to
is that this is pure "formula thinking." The libertarian yahoos can't get that
some regulation is required, and this would be one example. So rather than
think it through, they stick with reciting the formula. It is absurd to think
that service in the boonies costs no more to provide than service to a
high-rise building.
Really?
Are we talking about maintenance costs?
Sure, that too. Instead of abolishing the rate floor approach, how about try
lowering it first, and see what happens? The prices charged won't go down, not
unless you increase the USF.
And with all the money we are paying into the USF, why are
these rural communities still underserved
Earth to Craig: Why do you think?? The companies providing service have to see
some profit, even if slight. If they don't, it's because the USF, plus what
they can charge (without raising eyebrows at the FCC), is not high enough. This
isn't drop dead obvious?
You are the one who is naive, if you actually believe the garbage
you are spewing.
I got the impression, Craig, that it never dawned on you why people want net
neutrality. With your flabbergasted reaction, all upper case, to my comment
about special interests blocking sites that conflicted with the own
self-interests, it seems like this was a huge surprise to you. Really? You
never thought of that?? Even this needs to be belabored?
It is because you have this weird idea that net neutrality is a birth right, or
maybe enshrined in the Constitution. You have this strange idea that "it just
is." Have you gone to that FCC blog yet, Craig, to see what *all* those who
commented are saying? Last I looked, today, it was still unanimous. It seems,
no one as gullible as Craig has commented on the blog?
Check your history books. Neutrality of the telegraph, first, and then telco
networks, has been with us for well over a century. No one in his right mind
can claim that the Internet is anything BUT a telecom service. NO ONE. Your
attempt to pretend the Internet is some "who cares" entertainment network is
ludicrous.
(2) to preserve the vibrant and competitive free market that
presently exists for the Internet and other interactive computer
services, unfettered by Federal or State regulation;
Moving beyond brainless libertarian slogans, how do you maintain "vibrant"
anything, over the Internet, if you turn it into another cable TV walled
garden, Craig?
