And as an aside, the article also explains that watching Internet TV on tiny
screens is losing its appeal, but that use of Internet TV on big screens is
more than making up for it.
So Bert, I found an interesting slide deck about the ADI Q4 report on TVE. By
the way, CMO is a subsidiary of Adobe...
The notion that watching Internet TV on tiny screens is losing appeal s YOUR
misguided conclusion from the CMO article you posted. Slide 9 tells us that
there was 102% YoY growth in TVE authentications. Slide 7, which was used in
the CMO article shows a 20% decrease in the share of activations by iOS
devices. But the slide does not show the 102% increase in authentications - the
scale is the same for both years as it is showing "share" not total
authentications by device type.
Now look at slide 9. It tells us there was 21% YoY growth in authentications
for iOS devices. This is kinda basic math.
Using 100 as the 2014 basis in slide 7 and a share of 45% we get a numeric 45
for iOS. As the number of total authentications more than doubled we can use
204 as the 2015 basis. As the share dropped to 36% for 2015 we get a numeric
value of 73.44, which just happens to coincide with the 21% YoY growth for iOS
I guess that kinda blow a gaping hole in your theory...
You might want to take a look at this CMO article too:
Looks like smartphones have overtaken tablets as the top device for mobile
Internet video viewing. Those screens are even smaller...
Once again, Bert has fallen victim to the old adage -
Lies, Damn lies, and Statistics.
But there is one important takeaway.
TVE is growing at a very rapid clip.
I think that qualifies as a trend!
