My periodic review of Best Buy and Circuit City DTV set advertising reveals
that once again the focus related to receiver capabilities has changed. Most
recently each store made mention of reception capability in some, though
often confusing way, i.e.: Cable Card, HD inside, etc. This weeks Best Buy
ads make no mention of reception capability of any sort. However, the
several set labeled as monitors have a numerical notation which will lead
you to a very small note and, if you can even find it, advises that an
external receiver is required. Circuit City does state "HD Built in" on
some sets but does not define that term, while many other sets provide no
information as to either their monitor or receiver status.
Clearly the average consumer has no idea what capabilities they are
purchasing other than the HDMI and Component inputs.
