Ask them. They are struggling because they are unable to compete, thanks to a lot of dumb rules that make no sense except maybe as religious mantra to soothe the soul.


No, they are struggling because they, like newspapers, no longer provide good value for local advertising dollars when compared with alternatives, and they are struggling because of the overall weak economy and structural changes in several key industries.

You cannot keep charging more for less, and expect to sustain your business. In a competitive marketplace one would expect that prices would come down if you delivered less; but for the past two decades prices have been going up as ratings decline. This is NOT sustainable, and is one of the fundamental reasons that TV broadcasting slowly dying.

It is also worth nothing that some of these "dumb rules" are helping to sustain the Broadcast TV business. Retransmission consent is at the top of this list.
