Craig, honestly, I asked for proof, and I gave you the ATSC site that has the

Proof of what Bert?
You clearly have little comprehension of the power that broadcasters still hold
over the political class.
We have NO IDEA whether broadcasters will adopt ANY part of the ATSC 3.0
standard. They may decide that they need a completely different approach to
remain viable, or they may just stick with ATSC 1.0 until they become
completely irrelevant.
What we do know is that another large chunk of the spectrum they formerly
controlled is now in the hands of competitors, all of whom plan to offer
streaming video services, both unicast and multicast.
If you want proof, just look at the position the NAB is taking on this. "Why
didn't Microsoft just buy this spectrum when they had the opportunity?"
What the NAB fears is simple. Unlicensed spectrum that can by pass the
broadcasters providing a "neutral" pipe to connect to the Internet.
I would think you would applaud this...
;-)
This talks to interactive service, as it has been defined so far. Your job
now is to show evidence that ATSC 3.0 is to do much more than this, going so
far as to offer broadband service, not just leverage off broadband service,
and furthermore, offer broadband service as part of ATSC 3.0. Proof?
I did not say that ATSC 3.0 is the total solution; I only noted that they have
placed some hooks int he standard to support 2-way services.
The broadcasters still control a lot of valuable spectrum...
And politicians.
If they want to offer the same types of services as competitors, it is likely
they will be able to their spectrum in new and innovative ways. THe first step
was to make ATSC 3.0 voluntary. Next step is for the FCC to get out of the
way...

Craig
